As if frightened
From in a forest
For the distance is so great
Between us in others’ eyes

Here where even in winter
The sun will shine
And mitigate the cold

Where what I am
Is as far from you
As day from night
And yet at dusk and dawn

Before the two
Then go alone
Along their separate ways

I can feel the dream
However crude
Of us together
At each other’s side

Bravo!

There it is, the connection of life forms that I know exists...in the end walking as one...

"Before the two
Then go alone
Along their separate ways

I can feel the dream
However crude
Of us together
At each other’s side"

This is most definitely
a keeper...

and library worthy...

I found this opening to be a most ponderous thought~

I needed something to reflect on this day ...
thank you~

Well done, John.

It’s true, the boundary between man and beasts seems to fade and blend at dusk and dawn. Daytime is man’s reign; night time belongs to the creatures of the dark - but at dusk or dawn the black and white fade into a blended gray; a brief time when a strange kinship exists among the creatures of the Earth. I feel it each time, sitting motionless by a pond or a lake, observing the life around me, as the sun disappears below the horizon and darkness slowly descends.

But along with the darkness comes the hard realization of man’s true disconnection from Nature - we are but visitors now, clutching to the crutches of civilization and technology.

With a deep sigh, we climb into our SUV, and let the GPS guide us “home”.

P.S. I have neither SUV, nor GPS.....am I lost?

She was as graceful
as the sway of pond moss
Quiet
      as dusk
               falling across the canyon

Her breath
moved the yellow wall of mustard

She was covered with shivered listening

Not only the grass sighed when she was gone

I don't have the eloquence to tell you how much I love this.  I think (difficult to think, all at once, of all the poems of yours that I have read)that this is my favourite of yours - I am almost sure that I love it even more than Bar Harbor.

Thank you for the beautiful moments that you give me.

CastleGuard and Martie, I also enjoyed your responses immensely.
