state of confusion

Reprieve:

1: to delay the punishment of (as a condemned prisoner)
2 : to give relief or deliverance to for a time

We have not said our goodbyes.

Don’t think us ungrateful, Lord,
we know we have been fortunate.
It’s just that we’re a suspicious lot:
we simply cannot let the words slip.

Such a small family, so unprepared to be counted
as one less.

The words come anyway, unbidden –
the silent language of time, taken.

Karilea, Chris, Linda,

Thank you very much for your heart-felt words. I'm not sure how it happened, but I've gone through the first half of life not having to deal much with death. It's left me completely unprepared to deal with it. Probably a family trait!
