Never will you see me there, but often I do pray
Within the hours of last week, or maybe yesterday
You will not find me wishing or joining hands in prayer
You’ll only find a hopeful shell of man that’s kneeling there

Within me there’s an altar; I pray to when the need
Where all my words can disappear within a hope to seed
And from their growth I see things and much I do receive
Returned are crops that feed my soul so I again believe

I do believe there’s better or someone who’ll be there
That while in promise I commit, I’ll find someone to care
That miracles might well appear and help that I might see
How prayers and hopes encourage paths we take and what will be

I kneel unto the alter, to seed my words of prayer
And when I do I’m granted strength by power that is there
And then the weight I had does leave and I find I can smile
So often now in course of day, I pray a little while
