I dream the feel a woman needs
until the wake-up call
and cry for her this day, today,
my tears like waterfalls.

Drips the pain like time’s tick-tock
around the dial of memory
and the past and present mingles
in sad disharmony.

Not a river but a stream
parts the company of earth
like love cuts through the spirit
looking for internal worth
and from that cut and split
comes the essence of rebirth …
and there is no yesterday
in the afterbirth.

Not only do the homeless
stand like beggars on the street
or the hungry plead for food
or the meek sit still and weep
and I cry for her this day, today,
streams, rivers, to the sea.
because her dream of yesterday
lies inert in history.

Back, back, too far back;
do you believe in dreams
and the yearn of afterbirth
to hold one as being real?

I'm not sure who the woman is in your poem...perhaps all woman?  But in answer to your question, yes, I do believe in dreams...but you probably already knew that.

Hi, Martie - I'm glad that you believe in dreams but there are so many different kinds of dreams - the sleeping kind, the goal to be achieved, intuitive feel, and, of course, the mystical kind to name but a few.  I try not to believe but they (the dreams) come back, back, again from so very far back and not one as yet appears to have been real.  Was history even real?  But to "dream and not make dreams your master" ... hard sometimes.
Happy Thanksgiving, Martie.
Hugs

Hoping this is the answer to what is going on with me these days.  Thanks, I needed this.  Hope you are well, dear Helen.   ......jo

Jo - If it is then consider yourself one of the "chosen" but remember that even the "chosen" aren't promised a rose garden.  It's a pity but that's the way the cookie crumbles and all cookies crumble!
Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.

Yes, sons do wonders for mums!
