Rain Mood
November 1999

I am the heartbeat of the falling rain,
recalling sharp-edged images
that sing yellow umbrellas
and breathe wet wool
and walk in puddles
and taste transient, primeval, earth-fresh air
and remember in a million shiny greens and soft, soft greys.

I am the essence of the rain,
abubble and awash with summer coolness
in a rain-grey sky.

I understand
that I do not understand
my struggle
to contain
an unexplored
and unborn
mystic exhilaration.

I am the rain.

Bravo!  Nicely done Owl.  But I think you
are more like a delicate snowflake,  softly
falling to earth.  Something tells me you don't
get snowflakes?

Thanks Magnus, for enjoying my poem, for describing me as a "delicate snowflake", and yes, Magnus, something is right.  We don't get snowflakes, though once when I had just started teaching about 200 miles away from home and was going home for the weekend with 3 friends, we passed through a place called Mooi (it means "pretty" in Afrikaans) River and there was enough snow for us to have a snowfight - the 2 girls against the 2 boys.  We girls were wearing slops and once we got back into the car we noticed our feet were freeeeeeezing!  That was the only time that I have ever seen snow.  There are a few places in the country that have had a light snowfall over a period of about 1 day.  Also the mountain tops sometimes have snow on them.

Thanks aujussy wolf, for enjoying my poem.
I am glad you like my view of things and that you find my style calm and full of images.  My life is very stressed and hectic, so I have to balance it by breathing calm into my soul.

I'm looking -- right now I mean -- down from the sky to see your city....thanks to Google Earth, of course. Somehow I knew that doing so would help me to understand your poetry, and it does.....I wish we could always look from the sky at things of Earth.

Maybe I'll go write that.

Thanks, Ratleader.  There, right up there, in the dark night sky, I see a Ratleader-Google-star.  Hi, I'm waving, but you don't seem to see me.  I'm glad you aren't afraid of heights!  I agree, literally as well as metaphorically, it is always best to look down at things.  That way you get the bigger picture.

Thank you Serenity Blaze and Enchantress for the encouragement.  I am glad that you are enjoying what I write.  I have had a terrible day and the welcome and encouragement from you and many people on this forum has made my day a lot less terrible!

Thank you Gentle Spirit and Nightshade.  It is a wonderful, warm, fuzzy feeling to be understood and appreciated, apart from the fact that it is great that my poem could bring you enjoyment.
