this heartache
           I thought I
carried
                 so well
           carries me
leads me on
           like a lost
                 balloon
and the only way
           to bring
it back is
                 follow
follow
           until
it comes down

Ed....I know this feeling very well...some days balloons just won't hold still and play fair.

"Now, weathered by waiting at the window,
even this light day
cannot find the balloon in me."

A few days ago....ok, while lazing in the spa....I watched four white ballons floating away toward the sea..... later that afternoon when the marine layer had started to wash ashore it changed the wind and I saw two of those balloons floating back, along exactly the path they'd followed earlier.

I hope they made it all the way.

Makes you wonder what happened to the other two, doesn't it?

I love this melancholy magnificence... love you noticing the flight of the four... and of the two. *S*

Hmmm...
Did you know, that balloons are actually never lost?  They are filled with the very breath that gives them flight.

Nice write.  Liked the imagery...especially the spa...way cool.

cool write, Ed, and it makes one wonder
about the two that didn't return? did they go find a...more 'suitable' home?

Ed, this really touched me. My sister was witness to one birthday in my life when I was staying at her home and feeling confused and not knowing which way to turn. She tried her best to make me smile that day and I love her for it. Releasing my birthday balloons to the universe afterwards, helped my spirit regain it's lightness of being.

Last I heard, they'd decided to float over toward Hawaii, for the Sea Turtle Choke-Fest.....

I'm just glad they went in pairs...that kinda completes it, to have balloon duos breaking out and traveling together.....

Hi Nightshade....yes, I've had precisely that experience myself...

AND...a little secret....around here (eight miles from Disneyland) having a balloon land is a fairly common occurence....when one does, I take my pocket knife and trim away all the excess weight....ribbon or string and anything else, even the little rubber ring on the neck of it if I have to in order to let it lift....and then I set it free again....

Nice write that floated right along.
I liked the way you placed the words, sort of floating, short words that kept you hanging on until....the down!
Thanks.

Ed,
You honor me and, of course, inspire me.  It makes me wonder what happened to the large turkey balloon released into the wild that had been tied to our mailbox.  That's another story to be written, or perhaps, a poem of perservance.

Your experience of the white balloons seems almost serendipitous!  So glad you shared it in excellent form.

The word art was very effective.

I enjoy watching balloons sailing across the sky and evetually out of sight. I always felt as though a part of me went with them.

On occasion they have returned to view and it was as though they knew I had been watching them and they came back to say, "Hello".

This is beautiful, and your format adds to the ambiance.  I loved the responses too.  I wrote a poem about a blue balloon a long time ago.  I will post it tonight.

the words, the thoughts, the presentation...
all of it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
