Alone I stand this winter’s eve, beneath a Christmas moon,
When I hear on a settling wind, the call of distant loon,
A haunting note of melancholy, I heed her siren’s call,
And flee confinement of the flesh, encaptured in her thrall,

In Luna’s light as shadows dance, I soar to heavens high,
Amid the splendor of the night, as with the gods I fly,
To my side muse Terpshichore, takes my hand in hers,
And whispers softly in my ear, forever I am yours.

Below us as a carpet lays, the earth in pristine glory,
Eons pass as comet’s blaze, the breadth of mankind’s story,
But then a shout from out the dark, far side of welkin’s portal,
Returning me to forest’s floor, alas, again mere mortal.

I slowly walk on forest’s path, towards far cabin’s door,
Where supper waits, then off to sleep, to seek fair Terpsichore,
To once again hear distant loon, to dance upon my dreams
Within the arms of welkin’s night, in moon’s translucent beams.
