Where no tyranny is tolerable

0 posted 2005-11-18 10:51 AM

The holidays coming round again;
like clockwork, coming round each year;
like last year and the last year
and the last year before that.
And probably like next year, and the next year
and the next year after that.
And year after year
it is going to the same or similar places,
eating the same or similar things for dinner,
giving thanks for the same or similar things,
giving the same or similar gifts
under the same or similar trees,
singing the same songs, over and over,
uttering the same or similar platitudes as last year,
and wax hopeful for the next year,
and the next year, and the next,
just like in the past.
One time we went to Robin's house.
I remember that because my casserole
didn't come out;
but when was that?
And once we had hotcakes at Elizabeth's.
was that last year, or the last year, or ...
And on one occasion I got sick
from noxious chemicals they were using next door,
but came to church dinner anyway.
Was that at Thanksgiving? ...
Which one? ...
And then there was the Christmas when it snowed.
I remember it because we ate Chinese,
and I got sick from way too much hot mustard,
and we both gave each other coffee-makers.
It was fun.
I found later
that the Christmas gift Dave had for me
was really just for whoever.
That was kind of funny too,
but when was that?  What year? ...
Then there was the time
the toilet overflowed
because they accidently cut the seuer main,
and the ground outside was frozen,
and it was bitterly cold.
And I had no money even for a cab
to go somewhere or be with others----
but when?
Now here we go again.
and for as long as I am here.
Yet I keep trinkets and emails from friends
which, like magic wells or boxes
give and give to me without exhaustion
whenever I'm in need.

What has happened to the telephone?
It won't let me post this thing on Pips ...

Well, it must have been a temporary problem because it DID post at Pips, Jaime.  Yep, holidays again. Hopefully, some of those bad things that happened in the past will not happen again, while fun times will return to you year after year. Hoping you have something special planned for the upcoming food feast day? I will be working with Sara at the barn that day, feeding horses, and  remembering a Thanksgiving in Colorado visiting with you, sharing food, music, poetry and your forever friendship.

Yeppers! Traditions are like that! Same old ~ same old! lol But there is comfort in tradition and the gathering of the clan
~ and the food! Yummy! Yummy!

In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October and I am happy about that. It gives us a break before we all gear up again for Christmas.

May your Thanksgiving be a glorious one! ~ but even the glitches give us something to talk about year after year! They come to have a life of their own and get more dramatic with each telling! lol

Hugs with love,
EA
