            Love’s Fool

Poor man, does your heart yet break,
Your dreams haunted by angel eyes?
Has the scourge of rejection stripped your soul
Leaving but the agony of goodbye?

You wear your sadness like a cloak
Pain and sorrow around the hem,
Stitched up with hot tears of woe
In colors all dark and grim.

The love you cherished has faded away
Tugging memories all that remain.
Loneliness fills your days and nights
As you endlessly juggle the blame.

Poor fool, what’s become of your life,
Now spent with your head in your hands?
It’s become as mottled and empty of hope
As the vows that accompanied the gold band.
