dinosaur bones flattened
with busy expression
by laminating winds
of family gardens
hummingbird climate,
picks away the snow line
seizing a rider’s hand
with wild country breakfast
gobbling down a cure for
winter blues…

a moss roofed pause
alert and curious with
barbarian charms, sprang tokens
hung like towering granite
whipping the season’s pilgrimage
into crests of garrison
blues filling the senses
lifting my nose into a sweet curl
with iridescent lunges

holding my breath
beneath the emerald leaves of strawberries
expression of sunflower shoulders
moved across the buzz lit field
like dangling plumes of smoke
sliding through tall grasses
there…
i saw my grandmother’s home
in long black skirt and white blouse
taking a motionless form
with familiar shadows of arms
lurching forward into

silent wool with forest fingers
dreaming of bull pines pulling
old schoolhouses, where children played
in the apple trees with reading glasses
making home made quilts that looked like
approaching headlights of speeding deer
with long haired doe eyes

strong arms now wrinkled
slipping back into their graves
which smelled of age, caressing
the earth’s heart, beneath the slow
slop of farms,
where grandma’s cough
can still be heard

i swallow these memories
taking over my mind
moving through the room
at a bare whisper

i can hear it,
as if it were a train
on a long track of
diamond shaped windows
where another passing vehicle,
interrupts the dead
with the wounds of human things
echoing like thunderbolts in the deep
throat of God
snarling a
command
to rip winter’s coat off
taking profound assessment
with determined stride

i believe the candle sitting at the edge
of sudden blizzards
was my ouija board
remembering
possession
is 9/10’s of the law
