I'm forever stepping on eggshells.
At least, that's how it seems.
Crunching, crushing Life along the way,
sometimes tearing it at the seams.

But each step takes me closer
to a mysterious beckoning place,
and all along the way I hear
heartbeats of the human race.

I hear some cry in suffering and pain,
some drenched forever in poverty's pouring rain.
I hear others laugh happily,
as they go their merry way each day
with the luck-of-the-draw,
and financial gain.

But each step takes me deeper
within the heart of the human race.
No matter which way I step
or upon which foot I might lead,
the steps that bring me into harmony
are the ones that guide me to heed,
to take care of other's needs.

For caring for others
is sharing the heartbeat
of one's innermost spiritual soul...
a worthwhile attainable goal.

So I view the eggshells in my pathway
as Life's stepping stones
that enable me to be
whole.
