“I should have known”
We’ve all said this once or twice
Forget the world and what we know
Left to pay the price

Its funny how we often
Close our eyes to what is true
“I’ll never do that” we soon forget
As with all the things we knew

In this case….I did know,
He was trouble from the start
Big brown eyes and confident smile
I let him steal my heart

He found me at my weakest
Unsure of where to go
Belonging to him gave me meaning
I saw a chance to grow

I’ve looked back and seen the many things
I’ve passed up because of him
The man I thought gave me meaning
Has thrown my life askew

I do not sit here writing
In regret or judgments of this man
I should have seen the “should have known”
Before this journey began

I cannot say I’ve wasted the years
Or the time spent by his side
I’ll remember all the good times, the smiles…
And not the tears I’ve cried.

Love always,
Dream

I was touched by the entire piece but especially by the stanza I quoted.   Very nice.

and Welcome to Pip!

Makes sense, I love this part.

I have found that the things that are hardest for us in life, are the ones that teach us the most about ourselves and life. It sounds like that is how it is with you. Welcome to Passions!

Welcome to the world of passion. We learn well...and then unlearn when another delicious dreamboat makes us forget what we thought we learned, eh?

Yeah, life is sonething, isn't it?

...woulda, coulda, shoulda, if only Ida hada...

Keep the memories of the good stuff, dump the rest; it can help you to be able to spot more good stuff coming your way.

Welcome to PiP!!!

I looked up your first post and really liked it.  You made a grand entrance to PiP and I hope to see lots more of your writing.

About this poem--reminds me to never say never and to look for the beauty in life's lessons.  Thanks for reminding me.
