"Even a mangy cur of the house barks now and then,
but over the mouths of women cheaply had,
there's a lock, a golden lock".
(Excerpt from, "My Dark Flower"  By Nadia Anjuman-Afghan poet  (1980-2005)
*
Take comfort as much as one can,
You who now wears deaths dark flower.
You will bear no more,
Pains crown of thorns;
Inside the realm of Allah
All is solace.

Reach from heaven, gentle one,
Touch the hands of gentle men
Know the cur that growled is mongrel,
His mind by ancient chains, attached to evil.

I know this sort of inclement men,
Their weather blows as raging storms,
Across the every lands of earth;
I weep, unlucky chance was drawn,
In nearly touching isobars
Above the place your mother pushed,
And labored as she gave you birth.

You tried to explain God in lines
Of earthly experience-
But now is time, to sing and dance with Rumi.
Dervish with the saint, with him make-verse,
In that sacred place, where practiced love
Is not unique, but always common.

Rhyme with him some fair ghazals
You would have made, if life on earth
Had given you much longer years,
Please try with all your graceful heart
To forget your husbands violence;

May you take your rest in bliss...

KABUL, Afghanistan - Poet Nadia Anjuman was beaten to death, and her husband and mother have been arrested. The United Nations condemned the killing Tuesday as symptom of continuing violence against Afghan women four years after the fall of the Taliban.

Nadia Anjuman — who was widely praised for her first book of poems, titled "Gule Dudi," or "My Dark Flower" — died Friday in a hospital in the western city of Herat after being beaten, said Nisar Ahmad Paikar, chief of the city's police crime unit. She was 25.

************************
a most gracious write
the worlds a cesspool some days, aint it?
******************************************
the news comes
on a morning
when leaves shed
like locks
of the terminally ill,
requiems play
in the background
and sunday sermons
fall on the ears
of the pretenders,
only the naked tree
may find some clarity
in an uncluttered sky.

At least there’s this
Oh gentle heart—
With sixty nine others
You won’t be as bothered
To hear his desire
Passing by your door

Ford, this is one of those poems
that should have been blessed with a
hanky icon...

Yes, may this blessed person
rest in peace...

albeit her words and heart
will live on to inspire others
who will pick up her banner.

Thank you.

Thanking you all for your heartfelt replies...

But also ask, please send praise to Nadias spirit...

I first read some of Nadias poetry on the net, when her book first came out...
It was mostly in Arabic, but there was one site that had English translations...

When my computer messed up I lost those poems, and the url that posted some of her work....   I remember it as excellent..

Now I can't even find her book on the net, I would like to buy it...If anyone knows of a source of purchase, please let me know...

Peace to each, and all that you love..
