That Miracle, Life

Life is so fragile,
its delicate arm is made of velvet
and it breaths in muted cords
fluttering with the harp
cascading notes like questions
into the small space that comforts.

I have been around this wonder
many times, thinking,
thinking of how fragile
a window life is,
and someone walking
across the glass of it
tip toes with velvet slippers
or stomps in boots that break
and cause stormy shards of glass,
and the sound is the same,
the tinkle of life
the soft muted step
that reflects the moon
and that is held by
so many sharp stones,
it is the same.

It seems that just a twist,
this way wrong or that way right
would send it all
falling falling,
sliding into some deep abyss
where things go that try too hard,
or sailing across the sky
flung like a Frisbee
to fall again and bounce
maybe up against some wisdom
that has been sitting there in the grass
arms resting behind head
and just the trace of a smile,
waiting.

Nestled in a cocoon of softest flannel
I touched it once with a finger
oh so large and callused
and not nearly clean enough from scrub
to disinfect the longing that her skin absorbed
or to sponge the fabric of tears that tore me

back into another room with more tubes
and breath a machine that pulled and pushed
when all around said stop
and let the spirit that is rising go.

In that soft fingertip of love
I held my heart and prayed again
for it has been so long in coming,
so long since I prayed for life

I pray now, for peace to be there
for those that pass and those that stay,
with love both is the way.

How can I capture a moment
of poem
when it encompasses
all that life stands for?

And how fragile each moment?

I know who I might send this too...

myself?  I am grateful for the remember
of a time
from the fragile that it is...

knowing that we stream forward,
whether here,
or on another plane....

we continue on.

The nagging continues...

Beautiful gift from one lovely lady to another~

Now - while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again...and again...

Although this is a little long for my taste, it is quite intriguing... You have painted great pictures here. Excellent work

You have power, dear lady....like the one for whom this is posted, you can tie a heart in knots, or release it, with a few simple words....and most of your poems do both.

Prayin', Sunshine...prayin'...

A wondrous tribue to and prayer for continued life, even when endangered by time or disease.  Well written.  Ken

Sometimes our choices are difficult and life
does not always deal the hand that we might
otherwise FEEL is the way...  True love can
let go...

And only you can write it so well.

Martie, I am always left in a state of awe after reading the eloquent expressions of your loving heart. They whisper directly to my soul. You honour our Sun with your own radiance.

Martie, again, thank you, honey.

It's all over now.  She would have
loved this very much.

I am going to send it on to her other family.

Love, Sissie

Martie...I've always thought ( and still do) that you write the most amazing freeverse I've ever the priveledge to read. Your imagery is spectatular and the flow smooth as velvet and this is no exception. You capture life's essence somehow within your words. What a beautiful work of art this poem is. Oh, did I mention I liked it?
