'Til You Choke

I understand the fade of love,
the difficult, they try to be.
At times I want to strangle hold
those feelings deep inside of me.

I understand the soft of heart
that rises when I try to be.
The challenge is to overcome
those feelings deep inside of me.

~~*~~

I shadowed you, this evening's haze.
I wandered searching, combed the night.
Illusions followed me, bewitched
until I sank below contrite.

I don't regret a thing I've said.
I've wished for what can never be.
I'm targeted by others' force
to peel the outer skin of me.

~~*~~

Rueful I am, heart in fade,
hunted down by words that pain.
Reality is but a dream
de-tongued, this moment, you should reign

To swallow words that shouldn't sound
and taste your loathing 'til you choke,
compress your phrases into thoughts
that jam your mind in backhand stroke.

~~*~~

No understanding are these words
to those who haven't felt the ire.
Release I must, the torment of
this fury that destroys desire.

Let life
Be your first
And best spouse

So when breath
Leaves you both
It won’t be said
You missed the chance

To be with who
Served you more
Than any suitor
At the door

Who will be there
Until the end
And even then
May be the hand

That takes you where
No harm will come
To hearts brave enough
To live in love

Wow, Maureen -- this is one of your best!  Flowing, emoting, rhyming, commanding...  Great to read you once more, and this has left a very strong impression!

(a side-note to Huan-Yi:  a beautiful reply as well!  A quotable classic, if you ask me...)

You CAN make a difference, but first you should learn how: http://educate-yourself.org/intro.shtml

Thank you, I was just trying to show Huan
(John) that I don't always write in any particular style.
I run in cycles I think, and of course this poem was during a strained time in my marriage relationship, I believe, when words of criticism were constantly thrown at me to try to bring me "down"...and my only way to survive them was to write it in poetry rather than spew them back.

Thank you Mark for your kind words today...leaving me smiling
