Fields of night with legs extended
danced a lunar juxtaposition
at the top of its voice

high grasses parted while moonlight
grinned, evensong illuminations
slowly undoing the gingered, red gold
hair of fall…

and i stood there amidst dripping handfuls
of existence, heavy with attachment
gorging on this ointment

realizing, the  slightest touch
of nocturnal breeze on my cheek
whispering the pull
of my soul’s journey

so filled up,
like quietly watching
your unaware child,
catching his first fish
or talking to his imaginary friend

it was then,
i remembered the corn kernel eyes
of daughters whose mothers
were true friends
infectious
as i drank this last part of abundance
from summer’s final dew

knowing fate was busy gathering
an eastern horizon’s queue

i saw all my dreams before me…
beginning at
every sunrise…
as she slipped light
on her naked shoulders
like a gown

i heard herbal cries
of greatest achievements
precarious at times, but
never falling short,

placing me, right in the middle of
where i was theoretically
supposed to be...in this blazing
seaport

listen closely...and you’ll hear
omnipresence at work...
with occasional words
effortlessly
cheering a nurturance of secrets
that growing up forgot

and this night, walked me out
into the moonlight
waking up all the past hours
that had fell asleep

a savy bookshelf with moving
ambitious little feet

and i drank these hearth fires

wrapped tightly in
an incarnation of
brightly colored fruit
lay strewn among round stones
beginning a wedding dance
guided by the rhythm
of a harliquin flute

pulling me with strong arms
droplets of life’s glitter
and for the first time

feeling the weight of privilege
& eternal inheritance

My gosh Lee--I don't understand why there is a lack of reply here.

Again, you bring out the thief in me as there are so many, very vivid lines I would love to steal.

You grow--m'lady.

I love that you aren't afraid to travel deep.

I agree with the others, LeeJ....you touch me with the way you see and feel, every time!
Especially this:

"and i stood there amidst dripping handfuls
of existence, heavy with attachment
gorging on this ointment

realizing, the  slightest touch
of nocturnal breeze on my cheek
whispering the pull
of my soul’s journey"

An amazing journey it is!!

You continually astound us ... you do know that, don't you ?

'listen closely...and you’ll hear

and this night, walked me out

met·a·phor (mĕt'ə-fôr', -fər)
n.
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase that ordinarily designates one thing is used to designate another, thus making an implicit comparison, as in

"THE wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
    And the highwayman came riding—
(Noyes)

or

"and i stood there amidst dripping handfuls
of existence, heavy with attachment
gorging on this ointment

"wrapped tightly in
an incarnation of
brightly colored fruit
lay strewn among round stones
beginning a wedding dance
guided by the rhythm
of a harliquin flute"

(LeeJ)

You are a master of metaphorical art, and the world is better for it.
Love the way you remold that world, when its surface form does not suffice in its original shape, only  true romantics can do this this well...
