Liar-Liar

What measure
can best demonstrate Man’s very own worth?
A cubit, a yardstick, a foot with twelve inches,
centimeters, millimeters,
or tons of dirt piled upon the earth?
Maybe the weight of an ocean measured in buckets,
cubic or square, breadth, depth or width?
(Corrections for assumptions, herewith…)

Vanity
might best reveal,
true measure of humanity,
and its cumbersome zeal…

From the beginning of our time,to our very end:
Narcissism,human ego, illuminates our appetite…

-------------------------
"O you sons of men, how long will you turn my glory into shame? How long will you love vanity, and seek after falsehood?"
~Psalms 4:2

I am not a biblical/religious being, but am very spiritually oriented. If, as I was told long ago, we are the offsprings of a greater being, the reflection of some greater glory? then perhaps, narcissism is the path we were meant to follow? Just a thought.
I enjoyed the thought pathways this write lead me on, so thank you, JL.

This is an interesting write write and I don't know why but throughout my reading of it I kept thinking "you have been weighed, you have been measured and found wanting." I don't think it would matter how we weighed or measured ourselves if it's done in the light of our own achievements and not in the light of God's expectations we will allways see the best but may end up found wanting. Sorry to rabbit on but your poem got me thinking. Wonderful work.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
