Lord, I'm depending on your mercy, to open Heaven's gate and let me in.I know a young man there, I just got to see again.

He called me his old man, but in such a loving way, I miss him Lord, I miss him much more than I could ever say.

You see Lord, I was his hero, for almost eighteen years, now all I have is his memory, and these bitter tears.

I know Lord, I've got other sons, and they are precious to me too. And I hope they will come to know you, and depend on you like I do.

I'll try to hold my head up Lord, and walk in your loving way. But you know me Lord, I'm an old rebel, I don't always do what you say.

That's why Lord, I'm depending on your mercy, to open Heaven's gate and let me in. I know an Angel there Lord, I just got to see again.

I know he must realize by now, I was never a real hero, but he made me feel like one, before he had to go.

Truth be known Lord, he was my hero. Always sholdering everyone's burdens, lifting our spirits when we were low.

His loving heart was just so big Lord, his laughter sorely missed, and we thank you Lord, that our lives by him were kissed.

No lord, I'm not angry, that you took him away, and I wouldn't bring him back from Heaven to this wicked world today.

But let me ask you Lord, for those he left behind, light our path with his precious memories, so Heaven's gate we might find.

In memory of my son Matthew, with special thanks to Martie for helping me face my pain.

Bravery is taking the next step, despite the fear, because the destination is more important than the possible pain we might face.

A hero wrote this, in the voice of a father's love.

Steve....I don't think I could reply with words any better than TD did.  If I had anything to do with unlocking the words, then I am glad.  I hope to see more poetry about this important person in your life.

Profound excellence Steven.
I'm sure your son is so full of pride.
May you be comforted with the belief that each time we remember,
we meet again with those we love, for the heart never forgets.

courage Steven, becomes the template for facing what we must...evidently, you have done it here, along with God's will and blessing, in acceptance.  God, I pray your pain will be replaced with the all mighty hand of knowing...thanks be to Martie, and to you, for witnessing this through your words to us...God bless you in ways that you never thought possible before.

Hugs

I often wonder at the twists and turns that life takes but I know that we'll never understand - perhaps we're not meant to yet.  My thoughts are with you though we be "strangers" because the pain of grief is the hardest to bear.  I'm glad you have a friend like Martie.
Take care.

I want to thank you all for these warm replys. Though I may never meet you face to face, I do cherish your friendship. May God open Heaven's Gate for us all.
