If only for a year or so

Let’s say we had a year or so
It’s what you thought, but did not know
What would change, what would you do?
What inside would churn in you?

Would you change your circumstance?
Change your job and take a chance?
Do the things you’d love to do?
Do what ever yearned in you?

Would you sour with despair?
Knowing soon you’d not be there
Or find a love for time you see?
Accepting what was gonna be

Would you cherish what was there?
Find a different way to share?
See the world through different eyes?
Cherish every new surprise?

Would we try to leave a mark?
A memory that your name would spark?
A legacy that held your name?
A passion some would yearn to tame?

If only for a year or so
Can happen to the friends we know
So maybe everyday we should
Live life as that person would

You ask of life a special view
when shortness comes to visit you
but if to life you have been true
then what is left for one to do?
