“Don’t ever go out in the deep dark woods on Halloween night--- stay home.
For you’ll never come out of the deep dark woods if you venture there alone.”
~~~~~~~~~
The old man had me by the sleeve,
And hissed this warning on All Hallows Eve,
I spat back that I didn’t believe,
And I pulled my arm away.
He said, “I tell you, human child,
The smell of you will drive them wild.
You have been warned”,(and then he smiled)’
“That’s all I have to say.”
There was a party that very night,
Deep in the woods, by full-moon light
All my friends got there alright,
Under a darkening sky.
That old man was clearly out of his mind,
No danger in the woods of any kind,
And yet, that night I stayed behind,
Not quite knowing why---
Yes, I stayed home, while friends went out,
I said, “this one party I can do without”,
They all laughed when I told them about,
The old man’s dire warning.
Thirteen went into the woods alone,
Ignoring how dark the path had grown,
Each sure that he would be safely home,
When the sun came up in the morning.
But only twelve came out again,
Two would never speak again,
And folks didn’t believe the other ten,
Or the tale they tried to tell.
Of the slobbering thing with fiery eyes,
That kept them frozen and hypnotized,
And growled, “tonight one of you dies,
For you are the human-smell!”
~~~~~~~

“Don’t ever go out in the deep dark woods on Halloween night--- stay home.
For you’ll never come out of the deep dark woods if you venture there alone.”
~~~~~~
Constance....This reminded me of the song, Teddybears Picnic.  Enjoyed the flavor or your scare.
ah...
Nicely done.
Traditional spookies and requisite chills (and the psychology of it all goes deeper than a Grimm Faery Tale)
*applause*
Much enjoyed.
