All day it rained
all day the strong wind blew
tonight....looking down
from my window
to gauge the damage
I see
in the moonlight
blood spilled
a battlefield of the fallen
where shining and wet
on the dark ground
crimson maple leaves lie.

Well, my dear, I have never thought of the fallen red maple leaves lying on the ground as a bloody battlefield! ~ But I will from now on! lol

A vividly descriptive and creative write.

Warm, healing hugs (I hope you are feeling better),
Linda

Enchantress~

Ah, the susurrus is sung
laying beauty across the lawn
Reflecting the day
in kaleidoscopic dawn~

This is beautemous, lady~
Such softly rustled thoughts~

LOVE that Maple tree~
How perfectly poetic~

For when that tree is done...
here is another that
will bare itself
for your
enjoyment

Tinker this is beautiful.  It's a battle the leaves are destined to lose.  But they will be back to fight another season.

believe in what your heart feels...

Life takes many forms. Over time those leaves laying on the forest floor will decay. Providing a warm, damp, and nutritcious home for a host of earth worms and bugs of every sort. The bugs also over time live and die contributing to the enrichment of the soil surronding the tree. The rains carries the time processed nutrients deep into the earth where they are absorbed by the roots of the tree. Thus they contribute their bodies (fullfilling their destiny) to another generation of leaves, completing the cycle of life. I wonder did they ever die or did life just take another form? Great Poem Enchantress makes you think. :-)

Like EA, I don't think of fallen leaves as victims of a battlefield, but now I will.  I have my own battle, with a rake!  Hugs Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
