The Gift of Life
By Larry Chadwick

I hold those tiny hands again,
that are barely able to wrap my finger.
And I yearn again
to create life
that I might nurture
and love.

Yet forced to settle
for the gift
of another
to share.

Compelled to reflect
on what once was
and will never be
again
for me.

Living now
without
an infant and
without you
too.

Thank God
for babies.
Even if
they are not
mine.
October 27, 2005

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Sometimes,
history is the only way
to know

his story...

I thank God
I know just a wee bit
of yours...

so I can send this

with heart.

can't tell you in words, the complete smiles beaming from my face...this was contentment, hope, positive swinging back and forth, under a great big oak tree.  Lovely!

Larry, I am always moved to verbalize your poems ~ and I do so in a hushed and meaningful manner, for that is how your words speak to me.

Giving you a big, warm hug of understanding,
Linda

Well Karilea,
His story is only half the value without the support of friends. And thank you, a lot.

Nancy Lee,
Thank you friend. You are so very kind.

Angelheart,
Thank you for stopping by. Yup even babies grow up, well theoretically.

Jo,
Sorry for the lack of a "tissue warning".

Chris,
Thank you dear girl.

Susan,
Cool! I love bunny hugs. Especially yours.

Ethel,
Thanks for being so kind.

LeeJ,
That's what I like about you a fresh perspective. Thanks for being so generous.

M,
Yup, babies, wouldn't be the same without them. Thanks M.

Thank you scorpio. Appreciated.

Ethel,
I'm not sure what to say. How kind of you and thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Marge,
I'm not sure how many hugs equal a huglet but I do know I like 'em. Thank you friend.

Susan,
See now those are offers I HATE to refuse. Yes mam I'm a sucker for babies and kids. In fact, I'm the candy man at church. Sure raised a ruckus the first week until the parents knew it was from me! And thank you so very much for your extra generosity.

Martie,
How fortuitous. And your gift to her was very touching. Bless you friend on an exceptionally special day.

Ah Ruthie,
My friend, I didn't know. We each have our aches, don't we. Peace friend.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

No gift is more, and to be given such gifts is no greater proof that we are not just here on our own. Animals reproduce, but we have babies -- a vastly different thing.

It is quite a gift, isn't it?  It cannot
replace,  but it can remind and give some
comfort to our hearts.

Larry this is such a beautiful and tender heartflet write. Babies are precious little humans, who can brighten our lives.
