You know me, perhaps a bit too well.

Knowing when my quiet eyes worry,
when my lips tighten and the moment sits
still as my heart hides from you.

As the boy of me struggles and a tear wells
within an eye.  Or, when a memory brings
back those that have been lost...if only for
just a moment or so.

You could tell, could feel my aches...could
sense through the tenseness that I hurt, or
was torn inwardly by some lost, but not
forgotten moment when a man feels...

You missed my tears  as the Prince won
over the Princess....as love bloomed upon the
rose stem...and sweet grapes became a lover’s kiss.

You never heard the faint cry that escaped from
my lips...as two became but one...and a hero
lived to love another day..

For inside this rough exterior, behind this tight
and taut smile....just out of earshot....lies a soul
of bridled compassion...thirsting....that you might
wake to the gentle touch of my hand upon your
skin as you sleep....and I cry, wanting your
touch...once more.

Barry, to know you that well, is to surely love you! You bared your heart and soul with this poem of love and loving ~ and they are beautiful.

We think our hearts hide....classic male trait...but we know that to be real, a heart has to feel and respond -- otherwise, why have one at all?

Ohhh!  for the things a man does not show but in a gentle touch-- and a silk awakening.

This could melt a heart of stone...
