Cast your veils aside and
ride the winds of freedom.
Oh sisters, do not despair!
The chains and ropes shall fall some day.
Cast your veils away, as did Tahireh,
and so many other sisters:

Simone De Beauvoir
Fatima
Huma
Bibi Khanoum
Setareh
Marziyeh Meshkini

Oh, Mankind! you must rethink the Shariat,
and all other codes and laws which suppress;
for they are a cruel rule of Mankind that bind
all hearts and bodies to a system of bondage
this world cannot afford.

Cast away the veils of fear, the veils of despair.
Stand tall together, for the sake of all humanity.

For the rights of women must prevail
before the whole of mankind
can release itself from a self-imposed jail
of fear and injustice,
before Jihadism
and all other forms of suppression
take everything from everyone
and leave a scorched Earth
no Phoenix can survive.

Cast your veils aside.

In the view of the "western woman" it is a strange culture when a woman is ordered to be veiled and walk behind the man... interesting write, indeed.

"Hear Hear"...Amen...and other salutations of appoval...

Well done Kacy, any man that insists on keeping women under these conditions, is not a man at all in my lexicon...

enjoyed the spirit of this poem very much

Kacy? May you always remain the midnitesun
that unites women, and bring about the
freedom that some of us take for granted.

Granted, there are not many of us here
who take it that way...

but your voice is one that speaks to all.

I am grateful to know you as Poet and friend.

Kacy - a most meaningful write and I hope your voice is heard before it's too late but don't we all hope for so many things.

JCP, so true. Yet, even Western women veil themselves in other ways.

Ice, whispering thanks

Sister Karilea, had to grab a hankie after that reply.

Honeybunch, thanks a bunch! Yes, and time is of the essence.
