All or Nothing

I did what I thought best
When my Maker put me to the test
He thought me different then the rest
I regret not giving it my best

I tried to love her best
But could not forget the rest
Who nourished me with lonely breasts
Still though, I loved her best

Sleeping away pain is best
On fluffy clouds I will dream a nest
To muffle my tears as I rest
Still, I bear the pain the best

I gave it my best
Thinking my heart would be up to the test
As faith determined my final rest
Because I did not laugh at life’s little jest
But my smile at the end of hope will attest...
That I still gave it my best.
