so i confess
indifferent conversation explains
like a green grocer
refreshes memory

warm in my skin
i’m four blocks from the local pub
accepting my usual print blouse
time does allow a secret umbrella
like a cabbie,
with a vast imagination
raising his eyebrow
with a simple cure for
chills,
and that ache you think will never leave
my story vows all nights off
donning my slippers warm
there are certain things
bearing no deviation
i brush flour off my nose
thinking of the cell i once called home
avoiding tabloid journalists
who say, I'm a wart on the butt of humanity?
kicking morning announcements
not falling short of my grade average

my world emits more meals
pounding at my door
even with an average report card
and all to often
poor spelling but...

still wearing that golden key around my neck
like an immovable rock evoking

some horrid quiver while the ground
beneath me shifts when coupled thoughts
tease and tempt flesh of mind

i pay the bartender, tipping him
never going back for that second drink

the one which bred evening routine
like an ill effect,
justifies explanations
i refuse the words…
refuse the speeches
“go ahead” i say, “throw rotten eggs at me,
i don’t need an assembly to retrace my steps!”

while pouring a happy face
into that long hallway
the one that makes
everyone turn and gasp
at the clothes I wear

because i thank god i’m here…
no more breaths of anxiety
no more chocking my song
no more hammering my head

i stand at the podium
with my treasured list
campaining for artists

screaming "Leave the alone!"

clutching hard to my provisions for one

and that key around my neck,

shakes my hand and says, darlin, our

life has just begun…

keys can talk yanno

yes they can

now go find your own key....
don't tarnish mine!

I think this will be a good weekend
to catch up with everything you've written lately...

I'm woefully behind
on your wit and wisdom...

Lee - Sometimes desolation, sometimes hope..as long as you've got yourself, you're good..right?

Loved this poem..
