wishbone
every time
a wish
bone

hey
snap a clavicle
and get a
wish

humanity’s gift
from a high
threshold of

boredom

they insist
though,
wife, son,
every turkey

as if it were
a secret bond like
mason’s codes
to them

it was impulse
this time
and
I don’t know
how to tell them

I buried it

Ed....I know what you mean....I usually put them away until they get more brittle...and everyone else forgets about them, then I throw them away.  But to bury seems more respectful...I'll even bet you could get a wish of one you bury.

I went on a hunt
for the wishboned snap
of a long tradition...

it does not surprise me
it comes from Roman times...

and meant for ...

indeed...

luck.

But whose neck was it
that hung out
on a wish?

Excellent work - you got me to thinking
once again...

I ~did~ get my wish...which was, for what had just happened to that bird, NOT to happen to me!

I've heard the snap of many a wishbone... but have yet to see those wishes fulfilled. So your solution seems much more suitable... and reminds me a bit of those who poured a few drops of water for the gods before drinking from a stream... I'm sure you gave thanks during a blessing but your actions gave respect as well... for that which sustained you. *S*

And... I'm very glad to hear that you didn't follow the bird's fate! LOL

Excellent write!

Ed !!!
Why, I've never, ever, ever allowed a wishbone to be pulled ... and never buried one either~

You guessed it ... little 'artiste' that I am, every holiday wishbone has been saved, painted, bejeweled, laced and etched with a name and date ... they are those 'memory-keeper' mementos that now hang with the holiday decorations at FOUR grown kids homes~
(Tee-Hee ... I even take the ones from the baked chicken, the cornish game hens and whatever fowl thang I can get them from~

Now stop that ... they are ADORABLE decorated~

~*No matter what I search for ...
let me know when it is LOVE that I find*~ <))><
