Far from the beach of paradise needs
crosswise maneuvers adjacent to thought
work silently like undersea currents
in life’s push away from the straight.

I can conjure a storm of internal trauma
in attempts to compete with fate
or stand as a woman confused
by the wind as it howls today
but the sea like me, a puppet, a pawn,
in this ‘take it or leave it’ refrain
that partners my humble footsteps
over the rocks of a wish.

Oh, the sun rises but I’m not empowered
to plan my own search and rescue
and there’s something wrong with a scene
that depicts only bends and twists
in the backbone and guts of the sea.

If you listen you’ll hear a lone seagull cry,
“Where, oh, where have all the fish gone?”
and I’ll tell you now they’re preparing to hide
from the sideways motions of tide
but they’re not in a hurry like I am
to escape from the death of a dream.

And so falls the will of the mighty
prey to the currents unseen
and the straight forward “meant to be”
turns away from paradise needs
a broken and lost shell of the self
tossed on the cross into destiny!

"to escape from the death of a dream."

otherwise known as waking?

Much enjoyed this Helen.

sb - Nope - death of a dream is the realization that what was meant to be will not be - and one needs to escape from that somehow. Thanks for the read.

Midnitesun - thank you so much for your kind comments.
