standing on a shadow's lace

A Photograph

my mind tightly caresses
memories
that is all I have of you now
and curled yellow pages
of unsent love letters
that I stir ashes with
in a fire once lit
just smoke that echoes
now down a hallway
from a shadow
things are so dead
and unbelievably I still breathe
in my hunger I had tasted you
the swirling chemicals of development
licking between the bitter and the sweet
but realism and romance
are not a good mix
so I saw myself
in black and white
a photograph
that became my life

just some words cut out
from the diary of my heart

you've stirred those ashes, and transformed those memories into a puff of smoke

color peeks past the black and white

I've been doing a lot of this too.

This is beautiful sadness.

(and hey? I'm not making an assumption that was about him, but I thought you would like to know, I found Richard. He's alive, and stubborn as ever. He lost everything, but he still insists on trekking back in bio-chem suits to try to salvage his cd's.)

OH...and this reminded me so much of a favorite song:

"Time it was and what a time it was
it was
a time of innocence
a time of confidences.

Long ago it must be I have a photograph
preserve your memory--
they're all that's left you."

Simon & Garfunkel (Paul wrote it I believe)

Beautiful. I wish I had the talent of writing my feelings in such a poetic way as you do. You wrote the way I feel.

Ah, yours was the last one I have time to read today, must have known to save the best for last.  Helen, your snapshots of life are always more technicolor than black and white

I could almost ditto Mysteria's response... except that I began with this... and am glad I did! Excellent!
