and the road was engulfed
in icy flames
wintry silt forming
a makeshift maze
Somber echoes
a sullen shadow I was
retrieving from the bottom

Wilted rose, beholding thorns
still littered with emptiness
vast lanterns lit the decorated halls
ghostly refuge
amidst a slanted rain
a drop or two left me
exhausted, I stood panting
tearing myself back to pieces

Nearer, portraits I envisioned
never even left the source
I came back to it all
the very essence flaking away
and I fell...

leaves upon your gravestone
stems danced to form your epitaph
in a flicker it was gone
as was I

Sounds like a nightmare....the poem has a dreamlike feel about it.
