Where no tyranny is tolerable

Making Food
Jaime's latest scheme to fix the world.
No, No! not cooking it;
I mean making it
the way plants do.
How close are  we
to chemically synthesizing
all the wonderful food
that makes our lives worth living
til, in the end, it kills us?
Think about it.
Know any dead people
who didn't eat food while they were living?
More anti food ranting in a minute ...
But for now,
Any chemists out there?
What is the state of the art today?
What compounds can we synthesize ourselves,
and which compounds to we have to get from Nature?
Can we chemically synthesize, say,
a New York Strip or sirloin
garlic mashed potatoes?
What about a 20-oz prime T-bone,
steak fries and mixed vegetables,
bread and butter,
tea, coffee and dessert,
plums, soft drinks, and cheese sandwiches,
all from their constituent chemical elements?
Or does nature still have the corner on these things?
Consider the inefficient system we have today.
First plants, using sunlight,
have to make the sugars, the proteins
and all the other things we need.
Then animals have to eat the plants.
Then we have to eat the animals.
Then we have to go to the bathroom
because only parts of the animals
can be digested.
Or think of it this way:
First you have to buy the cow;
and she's big, you know, she's pregnant.
Then she has to half her calf,
the little animal.
Then you have to raise the animal.
then you have to inoculate the animal.
And when the animal gets sick,
you have to shoot the animal with anti bios.
Then you have to shoot the animal with BSE
to make the animal grow up faster.
Then you have to feed the animal.
Then you have to fatten the animal.
Then you have to sell the animal.
Then you have to slaughter the animal.
Then you have to get the animal
through a distribution system.
Then you have to ship the animal
to a supermarket.
Then you have to get the animal to the meat counter.
Then you have to go shopping.
then you have to buy the animal.
Then you have to take the animal home.
Then you have to cut and trim the animal.
Then you have to season and spice the animal.
Then you have to put the animal
in the oven.
Then you have to tenderize and carbonize the animal
so it will look and taste the way you want.
then you have to eat the animal.
Then you have to go to the bathroom
because part of the animal isn't digestible.
Then you have to start gaining and gaining.
Then your cholo reading hits the stratosphere.
Then (this is from my nurse friend, Angie O. Plasty)
you have to have a dub, trip,
or quadruple bypass surgery.
Then ... Well, you get the idea.
This is terribly, terribly inefficient and wistful.
If we can chemically synthesize food
to look and taste the way we want?
Hence, Jaime's scheme to fix the world:
Why not just give up the pretense completely,
and just live on the chemicals themselves?
We could just wear or walk around with
something like those little insulin pumps
that some diabetics have,
machines that would shoot us
with controlled quantities
of all the chemical elements we need----
all that are necessary to support life.
We would no longer have to eat food.
We wouldn't get tooth decay,
Which in turn would ruin the dental profession.
We wouldn't get arterial disease and die.
We wouldn't have to go to MC-donald's.
We wouldn't have to go shopping.
We wouldn't have to eat anymore,
and wouldn't have to go to the bathroom.
The toilet paper industry would collapse,
their customer base dried up,
throwing all those who use to make toilet paper,
who did nothing but make toilet paper all their lives,
out of work.
What are they going to do now?
And the whole food industry would fall to ruin.
And those of us who have big stomachs
would see them disappear.
Going out for a hot date?
Instead of "going out to dinner,"
you would just take your SIOT
(That means your significant other)
down to the public chemical facility
to have both your viles reloaded.
In this scientific world of the remote future,
Some pickup lines might be:
Hey baby I really dig your automatic pump ..
or: honey I can really dig your hydrogen
so please don't smoke here. ... ... ...

And that's when I woke up.

Space is big.

I ran home for quick lunchbreak to check email and read a poem or two...and look at what I found! LOL.
Good thing I'm eat a vegetarian diet. But yes, I still have to shop and prep and cook,
and all that other stuff that goes along with veges and fruits and grains as well as your animal products.
Jaime, did you eat some spicy food before having this dream? LOL
