written with the thought of worldwide protests on the use of force in Iraq in mind.

Riddle of life...like a recipe
tastier with spice..the shepherd has ventured into
the hunter's domain and is accountable for himself;
multiculturalism is a relatively recent phenomenon
not to be ransacked or tossed randomly like salad
in a bowl, it's so easy to apply elbow grease
so difficult to iron out a persistent crease.

Riddle of life is you'll reap what you sow
it's so easy to solicit favorite support
so as to aquire centre stage...
and for all its temporary glory
you idle in the spotlight
with your index finger pointed to the public
and rehearse "I am the shepherd, I shall not want";
yet behind the curtain, worldly views morph
the actor steps into the shadow of public opinion
the shepherd turns his cloth in for a hunters cloak
then the weapon of misdeed is questioned
was it the candleabra or the dagger?...
beware of self-inflicted wounds..oh great land
of "equal opportunities".

Of board room scenes where each man nods and agrees
who would argue in the face of prosperity
Pacific Railway chairmen utter brief anecdotes
a few words earn quick signatures
then down the tracks of joint ventures
stockholders reap what the tiller sowed
it's so easy to agree to everthing
as long as you get a cut of the deal.

Riddle of life..you'll search for exotic spice
it's so difficult to account for social mistakes
and effect a public appeal...which will forgive
your morph from shepherd to hunter.

Very powerful writing, Martin.  Going back for another read. It is so easy to go along; thank goodness not everyone always does.   ......jo

with the cost of being in Iraq and Afghanistan going up and America in the midst of an embarassment as to being caught short in the act of taking care of hurricane victims one would think the government would change their minds about lingering..

Hey Ella

How's it going down there? I'm so tired of hearing about you know who promising to rid you know what of sinister plots while so many know who propped up the powers in the region the first place.
