Artist: Tamara de Lempicka

Empty
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

I'm sinking in a sea of sadness,
For love no longer feeds my heart.
Gone are flowers of my garden,
Weeds now strangle since our part.

Thistles prick me to the marrow,
Brambles scratch once-rosy skin.
The path I walk is patched with briars,
I’m lost without ~ and lost within.

My hair is dull and lost its luster,
My eyes are gray, no longer blue.
My spirit’s low, no longer soaring,
My life's now empty without you.

Such a melancholy song sweet Linda..
Ah, but the portrait fits perfectly.
Sending heart hugs your way.

Earth Angel, this is a striking contrast to "My World of Flowers."  So blue, just like the well chosen painting.  I am totally convinced there is absolutely nothing you can't write about! lots of hugs.......lily jo

Hi, Nancy! My boyfriend is getting paranoid after reading some of my recent poems! lol

I actually do enjoy writing sad poems at times. I get in touch with another aspect of my being. Sort of a mellow, down time.

All the recent hurricane tragedies and disasters pull these kinds of poems out of my inkwell.

Hi, jo!

That was so sweet of you to say!

In "My World of Flowers" I was painting a world of flowers that existed before love was taken away at the end of the poem.

"Empty" picks up where the last poem left off. Now there are brambles and briars and sadness has turned to despair. Gosh, I better write something happy now! I think I need a tissue! lol

Loveya!

Linda...I think you have written the feelings of many within this poem.  So, I guess it's no longer empty!

Martie ~

I wish it wasn't so, but I'm afraid you're right. There are many who could identify with such feelings of despair.

You're closing comment was very cute, Cute One!

Hugs with love,

Angelheart, you truly do have the heart of an angel!

Those were very kind words that you wrote and I thank you.

I'll go check out your poem. Sorry to hear that you are in sad mode but those times sure make the happy ones even better by contrast.

LOL, no poems posted yet Linda. I've been here, but I haven't had much time to read or write in Open over the last year or more. I'm hoping that will change over the next short while. I really enjoyed my poetry fix this morning ... I've missed that a lot.

Kit, I know that although you haven't been working in front of the scenes as of late, you have been working behind them!

~ but I will be on the look-out for a poetic treat from you at some point in time! Your fans await!
