Especially in autumn,
I admire women
With streaks in their hair-
Like leaf tints on October oaks
Telling of life experiences,
That sprouted in short springs
And grew over long summers.
*
A wheel on my cart is stuck-
Another, same problem-
Side swipes a stack of Cheerios,
Parked along the isleside;

Looking up
At the sound of the crash,
Rubber-necking, I see

Red lips, and meteor showers
In mid-night hair,
Above white shoulders;

A sidelong glance arrests
My momentary stare,
At the lovely someone
That has crashed
Into a something-now bent low
To make a slow retrieve from
The valley of cereals, floor;

I send an admiration glance
At the form that makes pretty,
The ugly, modern-boring
Supermarket geography;

And I catch what I sought-
A permission wink,
To thank my look
That begs no why answer-
A simple attest of cave-people need
Of innocent, ego inflation...

(Especially craved in autumn)

Carts pass...the moment lingers
For only a moment,
And is soon forgotten...

Love this! Nothing like a flattering, complimentary glance when least expected.
Well done & much enjoyed.  Chris

Thank you, Chris, for the flattering comment...

And also for your little Sandurg quote..

"Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance"

To which I feel the need to add...

"We may but pass as the world goes by
And take from a look of eyes into eyes,
A film of hope and a memoried day."

By that same great master of verse-
(Carl Sandburg-excerpt-"Dream Girl"

Both quotes in my mind, greatly enhancing my poem...

Thank you, Marge.....

I guess the last line of my poem is really a fib, deep in the spirit, these type of encounters are stored, and not easily forgotten..

This is beyond beautiful..
and I know the feeling to be given an unexpected certain 'look'
it does do wonders for the ego
especially in Autumn.

A keeper m'friend....for sure a keeper.
You do pen beautiful, exquisite poetry.

Don't tell God how great the storm is..
tell the storm how great your God is.

Ford...I hate going grocery shopping, but this (almost) makes it seem fun.  I think I'll head over to Vons and replenish my Cheerios!!  You're such a lovely man!!

Very beautiful!

Dear poet friends...

Thank you, one and all, for reading, and the very nice replies.....

It makes my heart warm when I am understood, and even warmer when, when I write is accepted as pretty good poetry.

Peace to all.....

lol
the only time I can REMEMBER dumping a supermarket aisle display, all I saw was a small child staring, pointing a finger at me, and laughing

Ford, I like your scene better

meet you at the market...I need to dump an aisleway
