Born To Autumn

You were born to autumn,
took the first day of the time
of leaves falling, falling away

With an inward knowing you rise
to sip the magic from a cup
no one sees until you show them

Your cup full of moments filled
by every feather leaf that comes
a-tumbling yellow at your feet

I am not made for such a season,
the very thought of icetime huddles me
within, my foliage drowning into brown

But you, you are evergreen, your spring
in fall unchanging while the hills
lapse into sand, wait dry for the rain

Slow perhaps, this green of you,
holding steady until the warming
but in fall you stand, a bold relief

Drink, drink deep and know
your unseen cup is real,
your time of filling, now
