Listening to every heart

Galveston Bay

There,  on some long ago beach
in this lone heart,
not one I’ve pictured before,
but along a Galveston Bay
not like the ones I visited
some once again and long ago…

where waves lapped and
under-surf tugged
no, Galveston Bay was quiet
and quietly wave-less….
waiting….

where seas were warm and warmer in kind
where thoughts were not
upon one’s mind
of senseless ruin nor terrible dream,
no, no, Galveston is but a song
in blues and greens….

yet, here a storm tarries and brews
and sends lives skittering
seemingly thoughtless, too
as inlanders hold a breath, just so
and wheedle with pleas,
to friends, just go!

Oh, Master of Oceans,
Poseidon, take heed…
folly comes once, but those
who need
to learn from wary, know it is true…
you Are a Master,
in all that you brew.

They heed the sun, the skies,
and stars…
they will not know again
the hurtful scars
but start anew, in your time of brew;
and they will become, good lives,
re-lived, renewed.

Stirring and thoughtful, but most of all, beautiful.  How well we are all reminded of the power of nature these days!  We are strongly considering leaving tomorrow.  Packed up the vitals tonight.  Love you, SIL.   ......jo

This is beautiful. It is so sad to hear of more destruction.

Chris, m'dear...this is a scene from California...it is played out in the first stanza.  I don't have a picture of Galveston Bay...we were too hurried to capture a picture of its "calm" waters.

But that's ok - had I written it with some clear thought - it would have been more apparent.  I worry about our friends and PiP poets in Houston....

There is so much serenity in the sea.
Yet there is wreckage and horror too.
We can only prepare as best we can,
Even if preparing means running away.

Well said.  Ken

Beautiful words and picture.  The US has had its fair share of disasters lately and I wish it were possible to send you our weather.

Sissie

I thought that looked like the California Pacific.  I feel for all those who live within the path of the rage of this storm.  Thank you for writing it so well!

Karilea - I feel so silly and backwards! I haven't travelled much in my life and wouldn't know Galveston Bay from Hudson's Bay I suppose. Thanks for explaining. Hugs!

Exactly!

The master will do as it pleases, older than Poseidon, the God of origin allows these things to happen...The life force that gives and takes away....I believe it is Shiva that directs all storms...

A poem to ponder on, very well done

I'm in Rita's path.  Its ironic, because I saw a few people replied from Oregon, and other parts of the west coast.  And I just moved back from there to here after somewhat of bad situation I myself created.  Now there's a hurricane.  Praise God, its all his anyway.  Adding to memory...
