The Exodus
By Paul Wilson

She came in the dark of night
bringing death and destruction
most have never faced

Thousands fleeing her wrath
leaving behind
hopes and dreams in their haste

Hurry
we’ve got too go
there’s no time too waste

Mommy I can’t find my Bunny
where can she be
I’ve looked every place

Siren’s send warnings the exodus begins
take what you can
the rest we can  replace

Faces of despair hoping for the best
traffic bumper too bumper
moving at snails pace

You say don’t worry everything will be fine
But
I see doubt in your face

The children think It’s vacation time again
Sleep softly little angels
Tomorrow we’ll be in a new place

Where do we go…how will we cope?
the worst yet too come
lost lives we can never replace

Thirty-six years ago when we were young
a lady named Camille
we had too face

Today my children seem lost
in the aftermath of Katrina
shattered dreams they’ll try too replace

The Exodus begins again thousands returning home
With just their will too survive hope, faith and courage
Katrina will never erase

This is so sad. Good poem.

Poetry is beauty in words.

Such a heartfelt write Paul.
I too remember Camille..
fortunately I do not reside in hurricane country.
I hope your children made it through okay
and are able to return home soon.
Hugs~Nancy

I wait now at the lake or walking by the bay
I wait and listen or put a seashell
to my ear and it all comes back
the wind's soft murmur..and you.

Very heartfelt, Paul.  I take it then that you and your family were directly affected by Katrina....I am so sad to hear this.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and the whole region.   ....jo

Nancy...I knew you would remember Camille.
Yes my children are all fine even though two lost their homes and the other one is damaged at least them and the grand children are all fine. Thanks for asking and for your tender heart...Paul

iliana...Yes my children were affected by Katrina as I was by Camille in 1969. We found the strength too prevail and I'm sure my children will also.
Strange how history sort of repeats itself.
Thanks for caring and for reading my thoughts...Paul
