On Warm September Days |

Nearly gone, leaving little clue That total exodus will happen soon: September comfort fuels denial Though all of nature celebrates Freedom from oppressive heat; Fiction is this tepid-warm will last. Failing leaves, edged orange-starch: First droppers paving streets For fallen pears- Slumping on the grass; Caverns made with soft walls (Inside the taverns) Rowdy revelers Beerspeak conversations; Heavy drinking, bees, and wasps Sip nectar-sweet ferments; The party-happy drones, Made merry-gay, on on tonic that efflues. Lackadaisical, the world is their oyster On warm September days- Bees never dream of cold tomorrows, Present comfort, makes their mind soft, Like latter, summer sun, on last cut hay. Lackadaisical, the world is their oyster On warm September days-" Wonderful visuals in this late summer write Ford. The bees fly more slowly and drink heavily on these very warm mid September days. I love the way you immerse the reader in nature's deep wells. I am seeing the color changes here, feeling the sudden crispness in the night air. It's happening again... thank God. |

I love the way you see September, and am reminded of life on the farm when I was growing up. We had an orchard, gardens and bee hives, not to mention the other things you find in a rural setting....oh, the memories this lovely writing conjured! Thank you. ....jo |

Poet Friends Thank you for all the warm replies..... The last three September Days have been more than warm, they have been hot! Summer is holding on as long as it can, the humidity has been terrible..The bees seem to love it, but lately, I have noticed increased aggresiveness in them...Perhaps they do know that it will not last, and that is what is bothering them? -----------ice ><> |
