Sands swallow the grief
of loss, of emptiness that
swarms like a hive of bees
before the winter’s chill
dampens their edginess.

It was yesterday, that time
months ago when a passing
wind carried you...leaving
you lifeless, allowing a
remembrance to swell and
consume...why?

Why must sands swallow
that which wells within me
and bring the dew laden
cacti to the palm of one’s
hand...resting gently,
as gentle pressure prods
the mind...

I see the weed covered walk,
the trees that bear forgotten
fruit, the crops that once rose
rigidly in wait the harvest.

I see the mighty oak standing
ominous over a once trodden
drive, a rusted fence weaving
vines over it’s feet....where
you once stood proudly.....
Surrounded by sons, grandsons
and showered with all that
each could give...

And now....the grasses grow
silently, shrouding the life
that once was....as flowers
rest above you....and
tears flow gently to the cold
earth....as my hand reaches
out, touches that which shall
never again be....as a son
grieves softly to himself and
hopes to one day be remembered
as well...

I wait now at the lake or walking by the bay
I wait and listen or put a seashell
to my ear and it all comes back

Barry....A memory guarded by the shadow of the oak, the tree will keep safe, as will your heart.  This was so poignantly beautiful!

Oh, to be remembered with such love. I would have felt thrice blessed had I but known. And I am sure your love was felt in life as in death. Great work Mangus. martyjo
