It was just a button But where from had it come What was once the pride of joy? It held and let undone Was it on a flowing dress? Or on some common strides On a garment hidden deep That from the world just hides Was it on a shoe of old? Or part of grannies stash Older than one might expect And worth a heap of cash It was a button, round, four holes Some markings and real old Found by me in my home town By coins so often sold Amongst it there were seashells Some porcelain, a key A few old coloured bottles That the modern folk don’t see A button and a poet’s muse A thing to make you ponder About the past, of early days Of what might be down yonder |

Elan, nice to see you here, I found this button about eight foot underground, found out the place was a sight of an old original pub of Kilmore Victoria, the oldest inland town of Victoria. I found lots there and enjoy the time. History is a great thing. Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated and enjoyed. Sincerely Rick |

I can well imagine the thoughts running through your mind as you turned that button over in your hand. It's fun to find these simple treasures and wonder to whom they once belonged etc. Great write Rick! Hugs~Nancy I wait now at the lake or walking by the bay |

Rick, I have had similar feelings and questions when I used to foray into my Grandma's old button box!  Many people would have overlooked that button, but you dear poet, turned your seemingly insignificant find into a fascinating and enjoyable piece of poetry!  Linda |
