Changed shapes, and color
River water making streams of streets
That flow over fallen walls
That once echoed laughter;
Aglow with poison green-
Gray fluids, tinted ecoli-
Blended with chemical orange,
And rainbow pansy slicks
Of solvents, car-gas and oil.

A witches brew,
Stirred by broken limbs-
Eddies boil, and gas bubbles spew
As sparks from wires
Catch the caldrons on fire.

Questions arise above the turmoil
In the minds of refuge musicians,
Who birthed in big easy
True American cultures;

Ever again, will us old men
Street side, sing  blues, slide-
ing glass on brass between
Nips of amber, or sluging gold
From bag twisted 40's
Rolling  Jelly Roll tunes
In the heat of the Delta-
(To hell with Chicago,
Though some's us mocks Hooker)
While wonderin' why matchbooks,
Hold all our clothes?

Snug Harbor is under water;
Who or what's to blame?
The Jazz-man asks in slow rips
Of low E's and A's -
His question sounds play,
Smooth, and deliberate-standard
Like at every piece start,
When you are searching for your groove.

But no reply speaks
To the inquire of chords,
Tenor strings search,
But they can't find the answer.

No comment from me would pay this the tribute it needs.  Standing ovation.

Dear Ford, the tragedy has deeply inspired you to write this powerful piece and the musicians will compose tunes which will echo their hearts' emotions, even if there are no answers to their questions.

New tunes will resound ...

Love,
Margherita

Ford

When searching for their groove
they will find it in the heart of music
where memory and song dance together
it will be there past this troubled time
afterall, trouble writes wonderful blues!

A wonderful heart-felt poem
as you always do.

Excellent Ford..
Lady N'awlins will sing the blues once again.
Albeit a sadder song, no doubt.

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Maybe not some answers,
but you sure kicked back
some other moments, sir...

and I thank you for that,
and for this worthy tribute
acknowledging all that was lost.

Poet Friends
Thank you for reading and the kind replies......

I know that the music will never die, there is a blues picker  somewhere tonight, with thoughts put to words on the misery caused by the flood...and a Jazz man is asking questions with his strings, and finding answers...

Hopefully Snug Harbor will reopen, and rips and refrains will spill out into Frenchmen street again....enhancing further, pure American culture....

And the moans of Mississippi John Hurt will haunt the Delta cafe's, and "street sides" through the plaintive voices of men, young and old, singin' the blues...

Peace to all...

Ford,
I agree with all the others on this fine piece of work.

:-)
