The African sky, my sky,
strong after it’s winter repast
holds the key to all I can feel
in the blue of its timelessness.

And a mind traverses the sky,
this sky, my African sky,
like a sad and pitiful beggar
roams till its time to sleep
but the sky has no alley,
no cave of retreat,
and weeks pass into months
before the trespass again
into the truth of feel.

Then hell, then summer, then rain,
and sky turns a dastardly grey.
Guardian clouds bar the way,
thunder rumbles, “Keep out!”
and the key to me forever it seems
in the sky, my African sky.

But African sky, my only sky,
look at my eyes – they’re blue!

A wonderfully descriptive piece Helen!
Very much enjoyed a look at your sky.

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Helen

I would love to one day see your African sky, and your blue eyes.

This is a most charming piece.  Isn't it a wonder how skies determine our moods, from the grey of stormy days to the eye-color blue of iridescence.  Well written.  Ken
