(This is a new edgy rock song I've written from the Katrina aftermath, which angrily criticizes the Bush administration and FEMA for their inexcusable late responses to this tragedy, which had they responded sooner I believe certainly wouldn't have prevented Katrina from happening and much of the destruction in its wake, but would have spared dozens of preventable lives that have sadly passed away on their watch, not to mention would have maintained the ultimate trust among many that our government will keep us safe, believe that promise that they promise protection to every one of us.

The parts of the song that are capitalized are the moments in the song where my voice is louder, emphasizing the anger or despair, as I understand how many have noticed that anger is an emotion that is rarely seen in my poetry, unless it is protesting the war too, and to comfort the readers!

The pictures should clearly explain it all, how this promise, this trust, should ALWAYS be kept and returned to the American people through each storm, and how much these survivors and their families are praying and depending on its light to keep beaconing!

May our prayers continue to comfort the victims and their families, and though the government has already responded too late and is guilty of so much wrong, let's hope now they make an effort to prevent things from getting worse from here on out.)

Screaming Without Lungs
By: Noah Eaton
9/6/05

Down by the convention center,
a woman lies dead on the front steps,
a dry line of blood leaking from the wheelchair,
TO THE GUTTER.
Inside a chaise lounge,
you know they’re trying to sing hymns,
but they know the artificial white noise,
of press conferences are breaking their GESTURE...

Look, sir, I’m stranded and alone,
is it too much to ask for you to get off THE PHONE?

Speaking in four-day tape-delay,
public safety is absolute and requires no mandate,
I expect more than the biting of tongues,
I EXPECT MORE THAN SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!
Can we all get it through our heads,
better a thousand times careful than ONCE DEAD,
I expect more than the biting of tongues,
I EXPECT MORE THAN SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!

Deep in the hoity-toity command center,
an armchair horse lawyer stands in the front hall,
whispering the elite circus with the press pigeon,
WAVING HIS MAGIC MARKER.
Later you can see the secretary of state walking into the room,
wearing a pair of shoes she bought yesterday on Fifth Avenue,
in impromptu,
WELL WHY CAN’T THE REPORTERS SHED A TEAR FOR ME,
I WISH THEY COULD SHED A TEAR FOR ME.

And the questions keep lingering like next door’s warehouse burn,
a burn not even the meteorlogist could discern...

Speaking in four-day tape-delay,
public safety is absolute and requires no mandate,
I expect more than the biting of tongues,
I EXPECT MORE THAN SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!
Can we all get it through our heads,
better a thousand times careful than ONCE DEAD,
I expect more than the biting of tongues,
I EXPECT MORE THAN SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!

.
.
.
.
.
I really want to believe,
that I’m safe in your hands,
always did,
God knows we must learn on our feet to live.
A friend in need is a friend indeed,
“without cost you have received,
without cost,
you are to give.”
God knows I want to believe you will save me,
when the times are hard.
(I only hope your fingers trembled,
AS YOU STRUMMED YOUR GUITAR!)

I was standing ankle deep where I stand,
yesterday,
I was standing ankle deep where I stand!
SCREAMING FROM THE TOP OF MY LUNGS!
I’m standing waist deep where I stand,
today,
I’m standing waist deep where I stand!
SCREAMING WITH EVERY BIT OF MY LUNGS!
I’ll be standing neck deep where I’m standing,
tomorrow,
I’ll be standing neck deep where I’m standing.
SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!
.
.
.
Can’t you hear me...
.
.
.
SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!
.
.
.
SCREAMING WITHOUT LUNGS!

Very well sung Noah ....

I have seen so many people that have and continue to
live beyond the tragedies of Katrina, not concerning
theirself of anothers pain or loss .....

then I meet one that has taken upon themselves
                     to be a nightingale ....

               .... and forget the others

you have a caring heart Noah

Thanks James and Craig, and God Bless You both!

I feel much better after writing this out, and hope everyone can get one point out of reading this above all others.

It is understanding where that trust, that faith that we often put into the government comes from, relying and counting on them to come to the aid and comfort of the people, working "for the people".

I believe, ultimately, their weak response to this tragedy may have scarred our younger generation's hearts in ever trusting or having confidence in our own government for years to come, and left only grave uncertainty and mass doubt in its wake.

Of course most here are aware that I've opposed most of this administration's policies since they declared war on Iraq. But this issue of trust rises above all politics, and when you have even the Union Leader of New Hampshire speaking out, it's obvious there is mass distrust out there, and if our government won't accept responsibility, perhaps that's just the point; they don't deserve our trust.

Love,
Noah Eaton

Oh...Dearest Angel of Mine!  I feel your distress...I feel your anger!!  There is so much that I wish I could do!  The anger I feel...is girded with my good sense to listen to my mother and keep my mouth shut!  I JUST WANT TO SCREAM INSIDE...OUTSIDE!!!

Your words are a caress...although the anger shakes to the core.  God watches over the weary and you'll never once see the righteous forsaken!  Life will go on for those lost and those still wanting to be found.  I pray for the families and individuals rocked by this tragedy.

Here is written proof of the loveand compssion that fills your heart. I have always said that from the very first piece of yours that I read.
I hope your song reverberates in the ears of those who need to hear it, and may all of the power from your lungs and heart focus on charity, for this is the greatest gift of all, and one that innately and profusely flows from your heart as the words flow from your pen.
Keep the songs coming

Awwwwwww, Yv, thank you sooooooo much for your wonderful, friendly words as always! You truly are an angel yourself, and I know just how you feel. Naturally I am very rarely angry, and am very calm and the kind of person that looks for good in everyone. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't angry about the state of things right now, and believe we must follow our hearts and let it out in a disciplinary way! God Bless You, my friend!

Elizabeth, YES, YES, and thank you sooooooo much for reminding everyone that in times like these, we must always remember to look for the good and right within all the bad and wrong, which the former is truly what picks us back up on our feet and generate the hope and faith in all our hearts.

With that said, I'm proud to say I did just that today, in stepping down to the Red Cross clinic in Beaverton and giving blood to spare the healthy residents of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi from having to bleed themselves dry for the love and compassion of those who need it the most down there. My family and I also donated $500 together to the Red Cross and want to give even more in the days to come. In addition, I continue to promote information on how listeners can help relief efforts on KBOO, where I work for the news department, as well as am planning to help launch a Portland local effort to collect for charities with the Sisters of the Road cafe and the Oregon Food Bank to provide food and blankets and clothing for the victims.

Also, despite the negligence of our own government, it is the millions of Americans like you who represent all that is great and truly are the heart of the spirit of giving and sharing and compassion.

The efforts these millions of Americans have made, from donating money, to offering food and blankets and baby formula, to giving plasma to spare the healthy citizens of New Orleans, Biloxi, etc. from having to give all their blood for the sick children and other victims, represent the purest spirit of America. I've long believed America has ever so often been the first nation to respond to tragedies worldwide that have afflicted many of the worlds innocent, and we all have inspired so many the entire world over. It is you and these majority of Americans who offer hope, offer faith to all these victims and their families!

Finally, once more, I want to provide links to our readers so they know exactly where they can go to help (of course, I know y'all already know well to go because you are all sooooooo wonderful and loving!) just for good measure!

yaknow, I figured folks would have learned from the first term, but we voted Bush back in, which is beyond me

but who can we blame? Some voted, some didn't. The result?

Yeah, maybe we'll learn now?

Noah’s Ark Rebuilt

The ark of Noah sailed the flood
The breath of life within its beams
Until the waters turned to mud
And land was in horizon’s dream

This ship that drifted long ago
Has been reborn as Noah’s ark
And launched the breath of life again
Before the others could embark

He filled the hold with hope and love
For victims stranded in the flood
From his own coffer, treasured goods
And from himself, life giving blood

The dove of peace shows us the way
To light the shadows, deep and dark
By offering a builder’s blueprint
Meant to launch another ark

THAnk you, Noah, for the website addresses and for your inspiration. You are a giver of many kinds of gifts.

Take care
Liz

Noah, and oh how you can vent! A very impassioned song! I'm glad that you have the gift to express all that wells up in you, Dear Angel.

~ ankle deep ~ waist deep...with water continuing to rise up to the neck...and then...

Love & God's Light,
Linda
