Did you feel
the tug of sleeve
this Labour Day?
The soft voice
that whispered
"It's me ... summer,
and I'm fading away."
Did you sense
the need of heart
this weekend long?
The yearn for
sunset beaches
and sandpiper's song.
Did you allow
salty sea tears
on tanned cheeks
caress?
As you sighed
fond farewell
to this
sultry season guest.
Safe journey
holidays of heat
It's time for
autumn to spread
her tie-dyed
leafy sheet.
I've saved some
sand and shells
within a jar
To assure myself
next summer's
waltz
isn't really
that far.

Hi Chris...yes I too felt it's tug..
and also saved sand and shells in a jar...
Hugs, Teed

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Autumn still feels far away with our scorching temps... but this is lovely, my friend!!

I agree with suthern...it's sill summer where I live (hot and humid days), but at the same time I can tell fall is coming. Here's to the beauty of all seasons. And beautiful poem, Chris!!

sky - it's been unusually warm here as well. But always on the Labour Day weekend I feel a sort of tug at my heart. A knowing that fall is not too far away. *sigh*

What a beautiful farewell to summer and the knowledge that what we love is never too far away is also a beautiful thing if we can believe it is so.
