“Don’t shake your horns at me,”
she said, leaning easily against the rough board fence.
Her gaze walked slowly up the arm holding her in place,
until she tipped up her Stetson
to see the eyes
that an hour ago
she had thought chips of Arizona sky.

Now they looked like plastic.

“I was married seven years, eleven months, and twenty-two days,”
she gave him half a grin with that.

“I nearly made the eight.

But the bull rope broke,
or I let go.”
She shook her head.

“I just don’t know.

I woke up spitting dirt,
hurt,

surrounded by clowns.”

Pushing the barrier arm away,
she strode off
toward the corral.

Thanks so much, guys.  I didn't know if I had conveyed the scene well enough, but I didn't want to spend a lot of words on details.  I'm glad you could see it.
