“"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes -- and ships -- and sealing-wax --
Of cabbages -- and kings --
And why the sea is boiling hot --
And whether pigs have wings."”

Lewis Carroll*

I sat upon the misty bank
And couldn’t see a thing
I wiped a bit at my eyes
My glasses I forgot to bring,
So I listened to the butter fly
And the waters begin to sing.

“Rising, rising, rising up and over
I can’t save anything my banks are gone”
The fish in schools have lost their pools
But at least they are not alone
For crowds are crowded all around
And we’ve been packing all the domes.

I smell not wisp of flowers scent
For they are floating in the deep,
The cotton crops begin to soak and rot
Their harvesting they can not keep,
So soon begun to be undone
The weavers will soon begin to weep.

“Rising, rising, rising up and over
We know not where to flow away”
Play not your flute give not a toot
While the singing waters stay
We’ll not dance with muddy pants
There will be a jig another day.

Where is that ship with wine to sip
I should be cruising beneath the sun,
But I’ve lost my clock at the old dock
And planning has become well undone,
The mist is going with ill winds blowing
Too much water has become not fun.

“Sinking, sinking, sinking down once more
my coarse is too fine for me to find”
I walk the street with muddy feet
Too many muddy footprints to be all mine,
The national guard has left the yard
Flying south to protect and be kind.

Soon another day will come this way
And we’ll all wash our muddy feet clean
And then reflect on this wet trek
That it was just as bad as it did seem,
And while down there it is a nightmare
For others it’s just a far off dream.

"I weep for you," the Walrus said.
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size.
Holding his pocket handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.
"
Lewis Carroll*

Sadly, just all too true.

Soon another day will come this way
And we’ll all wash our muddy feet clean
And then reflect on this wet trek
That it was just as bad as it did seem,
And while down there it is a nightmare
For others it’s just a far off dream.

Just an incredibly insightful write.

"Where is that ship with wine to sip"
so many must be wondering  about that ship, bearing wine or water

Well Prof,
Once again you keep me feeling like a student. Just an excellent write with much meaning and inuendo. I very much enjoyed. Sad times presented with much heart and insight.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
