Welcome to the Astrodome,
your temporary home away from home,
where you will now roam under Texas stars.

Mother Nature has dealt you
a terrible blow.
Life as you knew it
is gone;
for even as the waters recede,
there will be months of dire need
and each day will seem
like an impossible uphill battle.

I just want you to know,
that the rest of US
will try and help you
in every imaginable way.

So if this message gets through to you,
welcome to the Astrodome,
your temporary home away from home.

I shall light a candle each night
and offer my healing prayers and thoughts,
that you may soon find your pathway back home
and not need a long time to roam.

You have such a big heart, Kacy.  I sure hope people can find some degree of comfort at the Astrodome!

Amen Kacy. It’s no luxury hotel, but after the conditions those poor people have left, I’ve no doubt it’s a very welcome refuge. I can’t begin to imagine what those people are going through, the hopelessness, the loss, the devastation.

It's so hard to picture this...all those people crowded into the Astrodome, especially after they experienced the nightmare of the Superdome, where they thought they would be safe.
SIGHING here, hoping for a better solution than this, for more 'normal' accomodations for the thousands of displaced people.
And as I ponder this, I think of Banda Aceh, and the millions who are still attempting to put their lives back together after the tsunami. Right now, it's like a surrealistic painting...a nightmare even Hollywood can't top.

Kacy
I never blame mother for causing problems such as this great one, that we are all facing...as she has no mindset to nurture or exploit, remaining always indifferent, she does not care whether we are happy or sad.....does not support profit or loss.

She leaves caring and preparedness to the only creature that conceives the need for them.....and that is us!

The undertone of this stanza tells me that what I feel is correct...realizing that the spirit of caring was given us by the very one that made this hurricane possible...nature is filled with contradictions, but what I have found is, that that word is used out of context by those that try to explain her in human terms..
She is definitely not human,

but our nature is guided by her! The natural reaction to help comes from her, the need to help those that need help up the steep slope (uphill battle)... at least towards some parts of a life as they once knew it...is instilled in us by her.

"I shall light a candle each night
and offer my healing prayers and thoughts,
that you may soon find your pathway back home
and not need a long time to roam."

There it is...
When physical help is not possible, the hand of prayers and thoughts reach out..and it helps, not (in my mind as a beseech to and invisible God, but) a heartfelt attempt to carry on our true human nature...as a spirit guide for those that have lost sight of "the pathway back home"

Dang! I have said too much....my excuse is that poems such as this make me think  very deeply, and also self examine...

Thank you, Kacy

Hugs and thank yous Karen, and Donna, for your heartbeat and replies.
Ford? You NEVER say TOOO much. I always appreciate the depth of your reading and your replies.
I generally react with similar thoughts, that nature just is...no personifications, no intents, no regrets. And other times, such as the tsunami and Katrina, I find myself wanting to put a face to blame on it without putting anyone's face in particular. In part, maybe its because of the way we name these events? Does that make sense? LOL. And I know this could have been my own backyard, with a slightly different natural event, and it would simply be a case of being there at the wrong time.
But times like this, I've been known to call Mother Nature by another name.
Thank you, for what you've just written actually puts everything back into proper perspective, takes away the flames of blame and guilt.
