A myth to many still this day,
Atlantis City went away.
Disappeared beneath the sea.
I don’t wonder, now I see.

Before my eyes same as before,
An entire culture’s moved away.
Changed within one darkened day.
Testing someone’s power prayer.

Nature must have buried them,
Atlantis’ alabaster walls.
People must have fled from there
To begin again on foreign shore.

In other lands, they settled in.
So many secrets swallowed.
They must have put it all behind
To look unto tomorrow.

I think about Atlantians,
I heard some here today,
Serenity  and Twisted,
And others, on their way.

Maps will not be needed,
To tell us where the City lay.
The Old South archived treasure
Like Atlantis, will not stay.

Think of a phoenix rising
Out of ashes of the South.
But future’s still a mystery
How this will come about.

Forge on, you brave Atlantians.
Courage now you need.
Change may be the remedy
To plant the needed seeds.

Thank you MartyJo.  I'm just filled with so much emotion...had to write something.  My thoughts are so focused on all the misplaced people right now.   ....jo

lily jo, I am distraught and overwrought by the plight of so many and the far-reaching ramifications from the utter and complete devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. It sickens this disheartened soul.

I understand and appreciate the parallels that you have drawn between the sinking of the Lost Continent and the sinking of the southern states.

A very moving piece of timely writing.

The phoenix shall rise again,

Love and Healing Light to all those who are suffering and struggling.

They are all in my prayers.

Fantastic write, Jo, in spite of the emotional trauma.  It's hard for us here to imagine a whole city under water but we see the devastation and our hearts go out to the survivors and rescue workers.

Dixie -- it is hard.  I found myself totally disfunctional these past few days and I cannot even imagine how the folks who were directly effected are coping.  Thanks for your comment.   ....jo

Honeybunch, it is like a living nightmare for the many people affected.  Many are here in Houston or on their way.  This is such a blow to this country which has taken so much the past few years....yet, we just keep bounching back and I'm hoping there is enough love in the world to keep it going.  Thanks for your kind post, dear lady.....jo

Martie, I know....it is.  I can hardly bear to watch the news and yet I feel guilty if I don't....these are our brothers and sisters and if it is happening to them, it is happening to us....I know you feel that, too.   ......jo

I like this very much, iliana... and you're right... no one knows what's next and courage will be needed... The parallels do make us ponder... but I believe the Gulf Coast folks won't be satisfied with becoming a myth. *S*

Nice writing...before this tragedy, I never realized that much of New Orleans was a huge bowl that lies below sea level and is protected from flooding by the ocean and the rivers by levee's.  Now that I know this, it brings up some new issues...
What if New Orleans is rebuilt and terrorist decide to blow up the levee's...something to think about...James

Thought this was awesome the first time I read it, but don't think I responded.  Yep.  I think there are some parallels among the cities.  Glad I was able to visit there last summer before the devastation.  I feel for those who have lost so much and am glad to see the pouring of assistance by so many.
Great write, iliana.

Jo ... it is heartbreaking and gut-wrenching to see the devastation. I cannot even imagine how so many will begin again in foreign lands.

I love your poem and the similarity to Atlantis.

Sending hugs and healing thoughts to you and all who so desperately need it.

A very moving well written piece here!!  Brava!
Heart hugs on the way to you~

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

exceptionally sad this situation...
overwheming and alarming...all we can do is help as much as pratically possible...with encouragement, prayers and hope for those who have experienced the loss of family.

Hugs Jo...beautifully done with much care and gentleness.  Thank you

Capturing sadness with a net of hope is a challenging theme.  Well done.  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
