Why Did You Have To Die?
~Linda L. Dowd ~

His lifeless hand I held in mine,
Vacant eyes, they could not see.
Skin as pale as a winter moon,
As I wailed the cry of banshee.

Why, oh, why, did you have to go?
Why did we have to part?
Along with you went part of my soul,
~ All that’s left is the shell of my heart.

The road before me is barren and cold,
I will miss you there by my side.
I’ll sail the seas like a rudderless ship,
Without your star as my guide.

Gone are the days of romps in the sun,
Gone are the nights of sweet sigh.
Gone are the arms that held me close,
~ Why did you have to die?

His lifeless hand I held in mine,
Vacant eyes, they could not see.
Skin as pale as a winter’s moon,
As I wailed the cry of banshee.

I sincerely hope there is more after.
Maybe then they can continue to be by our side acting as a guide.

Wonderful writing Linda!

Good morning, Linda.  This was very heartfelt, whether real or not, I could feel the words and sympathize with the emotion.  Hope it's fiction...

Good morning, Susan! ~ at least it's morning where I live!

I do believe that those we have loved and lost will continue to be by our sides ~ from the Other Side...

Mark ~

Fortunately, it is "fiction" but I felt it deeply as I was writing it. It pleases me that I was able to convey those feelings.

Gosh, it almost got me crying! I put myself in sad mode to write this poem and perhaps I went a bit overboard! Crying 1

Emotive writing!  It takes talent to put yourself in the place of another and feel the write.  You did this well!  So glad that it isn't a truth in your life.

Writing poetry can be like acting at times. I get into the part and "role" with it!

I felt compelled to read and add, that this is one I've screamed too much.

Recently was a moment tho, on the series "Six Feet Under", which I had forgotten, but with all the recent tributes to that series, I was reminded of a quote.

A key character, Nate, was a reluctant funeral director. And in one episode, he was asked this very question, (actually it was more general) but, hey, it worked for me.

He was asked, "Why do people have to die?"

And he answered, without hesitation,

"to make life important."

smile? and a hug

and just a wry note from a personal viewpoint, but I am such a procrastinator--if I thought I were truly immortal, I'd never get anything done.

Oh.

Now I am embarrassed. (and no less confused)

Hugs witchsister, with blushing smiles.

"if I thought I were truly immortal, I'd never get anything done."

~ WitchySis, those words from your quill are brill! ~ and ain't it the trooooth! lol Manana, manana! ~ Tomorrow, tomorrow!

One of my daughter's just got back from vacationing in New Orleans. I jokingly asked her to say "Hello" to Her Serene Highness while she was there!  Perhaps I should have said the Serene High Priestess!

It was good to hear from you! ~ Now get back to work! You have lots to do before you are called back Home!

Linda, I read that this is fiction, for that I am thankful.
But, the "feeling" was so real and not fiction at all.
Very good insight, my friend, to be able to write this way..... as if
you were living this loss. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs,
Ethel

Gary's Gilded Girl ~

Hello, Ethel Mae! That was kind of you to say! If I write a happy poem when I'm sad, the blues seem to just drift away.

Unfortunately, if I write a sad poem when I'm feeling happy, the blues descend faster than you can say, "Boo Hoo". I guess it's time for me to write another up-beat, happy poem!

Loves 'n hugs,
Linda Lou

Dear Earth Angel, grief ... you have captured it.  I was glad to read that you had not written about yourself here...and like you, I do believe we go on after death.  However, you have asked a question in the poem that all are confronted with at some time or another.  *bunches of hugs*.... your lily friend

EA

And so the tears begin to fall
I've read the lines and felt them all
What's left to feel
    What's left to say
the ship is lost
    in seas of gray
Perhaps you've been there first and heard
and transfered it to written word
But here in lies the one true fact
they gone and we can't bring them back..

Yes, this is so very sad. Well done, my friend. Much to close to home.

P.S. I really appreciated Serenity Blaze's comment.
An excellent reality check.

I have never been with a loved one as they have gone to the Light. However, as a nurse, I have held far too many hands that have turned cold ~ seen far too many eyes that can no longer see...

While I was writing my last reply, I was called away before I could respond to your extremely touching and poetic response.

Knowing of your recent loss, your words had even more meaning ~ and impact ~ as I read them.

Thank you, Super Gold!
