There is a song that sings the scent of lilac;
It sings its scent through days my childhood spent;
It beckons me to follow its sweet fragrance
To travel back to kingdoms' colored leaves.

Those days when I was free,
Danced and played inside a lilac tree.
The tune was one that came to me
When lilac blossoms sang.
Some would say 'twas not a tree
But I was small and it was big --
My special place, the lilac bush --
It composed its tunes for me;
It hushed the 'real' away awhile
And always left me glowing smile.

My grandmother's house had a Lilac bush,
just outside her kitchen window ....

     ... the same window she would set her pies!!

             haha, ... don't figure!!

Thanks for the memories

Jo...

just last night we were studying Whitman...

and my granddaughter and I took turns reading aloud from this poem...

http://www.vcu.edu/engweb/transcendentalism/roots/legacy/whitman/lilacsweb.html

so you must realize that to open this, today, just added to the whole sense of "one" with friends, and family, and country.

Thank you for this lovely gift...

"But I was small and it was big --" Yes, Jo, and the days were long and the years an eternity.  Enjoyed!

lily sis, I thank you for the "glowing smile" that you have put on my face! A delightfully nostalgic poem to start my day! It has stirred up pleasant memories of my own!

I love lilacs! I live and breathe lilacs! In fact I just went into Search and discovered that I have 18 poems either about lilacs or at least mentioning them!

Riotous glory in springtime blooming,
Sweet perfumed air at end of May,
Violet hues in crowns of glory,
Shimmering in warm sun of day.

Flooding memories of grandma's garden,
Fragrant lilacs of every hue,
Pinks and whites and pale yellows,
And royal purples all on revue.

Love, Light & Lilacs,
Linda Lou

They don't grow well here...sigh, but they are so beautiful, and for the little you to get lost in them, I can imagine how that was.  For me, it was the vacant lot and dandi lions.

memories are nice~
for most anyway~
sorry i just keep getting this memory
of  man on the porch,with a gun, not sure if  i am sitting there with him, or in the trees hiding and watching, or i "left" to  not feel what was happening, same as in attick and in closet or garage, good memories, riding cow, playing in barn chasing lizards, my friend, blood brother, indian boy. goose chasing and biting me,  horny toads.  oh well   best memorie, my son

My spirit will rise
above the sea~
There will be no drowning
of my soul or me~
